Title: So I bought my wife a 2013 Rav 4 new in 2013
Post by: Timbbuc2 on March 12, 2019, 07:18:06 PM
My wife drives this car everyday, but it got to where the transmission would shudder between D and OD. So today I carried it to the dealership and they informed there was a extended warranty for this problem. Turns out the torque converter was a bad design. So I visited a Rav 4 forum and it was stated they had received a recall. The service manager told me it would be covered at no expense to me other than a rental car. seems like there many recalls these days

That sounds promising. As far as I am concerned FCA's warranty is worthless, very poor experiences with them.

I love american cars but my daily driver is a 2004 Camry with 297k on it. I've replaced a wheel bearing and a water pump. That's it. It wont die.

That's awesome Timbuc2!
I find import manufacturers/dealerships do a better job of after purchase support than the North American builders.

Personal experience with Honda and Subaru - Excellent.
Personal experience with Ford and Chrysler - Horrible. From outright lying to my face to throwing stupid amount of parts at a simple problem. And still not fixing it until I tell them how to fix it.

My wife drives a 2015 Limited we bought in November of 2014 and has almost 60K on it and 6 speed auto still works like the day we brought it home.
How many miles on yours?

Any recalls on my 12 Challenger have been handled entirely to my satisfaction. No complaints here.

The engine on my 15 Ram pounded like crazy occasionally, I understand it is hard to find an intermittent problem but my wife worked beside the dealer so one day it was pounding like heck and I got her to take it there. They kept turning it off and then starting it until it quit. Kept it for a week and then gave it back without doing anything with it. I was on the phone to the dealer and the FCA rep and they did nothing. I shouldn't have bought another truck but I did in 18 and this one is good. It leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth after my family has buying strictly Chrysler products since 1952 though.
They should have thrown a complete set of lifters in it and called it good.

In December of 2012 we were seriously looking for a replacement for our 1997 4 Runner with 300,000 plus, owned it since new.  We looked at Subaru and then had settled on a RAV 4.  She had one picked out and couldn't get any help from a salesman, they were all too busy.  Then they sold it out right from under her, she said screw it and we left.  We had the car bug so we looked at a couple of old Mopars then she decided that she wanted a 'cuda like her old one.  So we bought this '70 'cuda 340 instead of a RAV 4 and we still have the 4 Runner!

Update::::, I started this thread the day i dropped of my car at the dealership.  So I get a call yesterday and the shop rep told me that i needed to have my car aligned and rotated. He didnt know that I had it done before I carried it to Toyota.  I asked him what about the Tc, he said they would have to order the psrts, but the mechanic told me the parts were in stock. I rented a car from Toyota, going to call him today and for the Rav 4 be ready. I feel like they are trying to get all they can

Depends on the dealer of course. The one time my 05 Cummins broke down I was coming into WIlliams Lake and the waterpump bearing gave up and the pulley broke off. I had a broken shoulder and somehow manhandled it down to the Chrysler dealer and begged them to fix it as I had an appointment in Kelowna the next day. My brother has bought a bunch of new trucks from them but there was no way they would fix it even if I paid for OT. I went next door to the Toyota dealer and they moved some appointments and were good enough to get it in right away. I tipped the Service Manager and the Tech for that.

So I got my Rav 4 back, turns out it was a defective torque converter and it was covered under a extended warranty.  Toyota is not having a recall but anyone bringing there car in will have it fixed free.  This is for 2013  Rav 4 and Camry.  So tell your friends that are having the same problem.
