Title: Is this a stock color combo?
Post by: 70 Challenger Lover on April 18, 2019, 01:38:53 PM
I was looking at this restored 71 Barracuda and was wondering if this was a combo one could order back then. I really like it.

If it is . . I bet it is a rare combo.  :dunno:

I was thinking that too. Either way wouldn't really change my level of interest but when I saw it, I knew I loved it.

that is "close" to the 1971 Plymouth E-body's H6T5 "tan" interior

the door panels and dash should be similar to the dark tan on the seats - here's an original

I know! Isn't it?

I spoke to this seller a few times and there was a member who was recently interested but I guess it fell through. Last I spoke to the seller, I told him the timing was the only problem for me since I plan to move across country in two years and already will be dragging three classics along with me. After seeing more photos though I'm starting to think I will really regret not jumping on this car.

My 1971 Barracuda had the same or almost exact original combo in it under the custom seat covers that tried to mimic the factory set.

@70 Challenger Lover (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/70-challenger-lover_962), if you love the car, buy it. Moving it in a  couple years will be a much smaller problem than finding another one like it in a couple years.

That's what I'm thinking too. I left a phone message with the seller today. I'd want to fly out and inspect it of course. When he calls back, I'm going to ask for the extra photos he has and also one of the fender tag. I have no doubt I'll like what I see but I don't want to leap before I look so to speak. I got a pretty good vibe from him in our previous phone calls so as long as someone doesn't hit the buy it now button, I might be able to make this happen.

I'll probably sell my RT since I'm very close to having it back together and I'll need some garage space. Before I do, I'll put it up here to gauge a fair value and see if anyone wants it.

Yup.  When I first bought my Cuda, I was sure I was going to paint it orange with black interior.

Then...the original EL5 Bahama Yellow paint and H6T7 tan and brown interior grew on me.  Glad I respected its originality, and left it stock.

I have the production sheet now and it shows H6T7. The exterior paint code is GY8 (gold leaf metallic). Making plans now to fly out and see the car in person. All the photos look great!

I just got back from going out to Connecticut to inspect the car. The car is amazing and I'm now in the process of buying it.

So once I get it, I am hoping to fix a couple small things that aren't quite factory correct. With regards to door panels, I am not sure if the door panels were originally two tone like the seats or just solid brown. I see the pics above in two tone and it looks killer.

The seller believes the door panels were solid brown before the restoration. I spoke to the restoration shop and the guy also thought they were solid brown before he resprayed them. Doesn't look like it would be hard to spray in the lighter tan but I'd never do it to a car like this unless I was certain it looked like that from the factory.
