Title: Electric Power Steering [EPS] for My G3 Hemi Swap
Post by: cudaragtop on March 25, 2017, 09:56:29 AM
No Pumps, No Pullys, No Belts, No Hoses, No Fuid, No Leaks, No Engine Brackets, Less Parasitic HP Drain on the Engine. ~ 35% Less Steering Effort

Not the least expensive path to Power Steering but I do like all the benefits.
Electric Assist Power Steering with my Manual Box.
360 Watt, 30 Amp Motor @12VDC
Will need to size alternator accordingly... Not a problem with modern alternator options.
Already planned for new steering column...

Silver Sport Transmissions also offers a kit? Thought I'd post so you could compare features/pricing etc...

Ordered this Ididit Tilt column and EPAS Performance Electric Power Assisted Steering Kit for the Barracuda.
Have to figure out what steering wheel, adapter and horn button we want to use.
Need to get the seats located and mounted and figure out the correct location, length, angle, etc.
Neon SRT4 Seats need to have some modified brackets made up for them.
This is the Kit, Steering column and a YouTube video of an EPAS install in and early A-Body Barracuda.

I like the idea quite a bit and wish I had gone this route. Are you able to have variable assist based on vehicle speed?

Let me know how that works out on the a-body.

My quick ratio box on the 69 Barracuda is pretty loose. I'm looking at options now.

The amount of assist is based on feedback to the computer and the amount of assist provided can be adjusted with a potentiometer that comes with the kit.

One of the beauties is that at highway speeds there is little to no assist needed so none is given which means only when assisting is the load increased on the alternator. No parasitic HP drain in a straight line.
Likewise in a parking lot moving slow the increased resistance feedback increases the assist.
Fail-safe is back to manual steering if the electric motor were to quit.
