Title: 1970 Challenger AMD rear bumper??
Post by: 750-h2 on July 23, 2019, 03:01:24 PM
After buying two OE cores that turned out to be bent and useless for rechroming, I am considering buying a new 1970 Challenger AMD rear bumper and having it triple plated in show chrome. Can anyone confirm that the AMD rear bumper [unlike the Keystone] fits properly and that its upper edge actually follows the profile of the taillight bezels. If anyone can post pictures of their AMD bumper that would be great!  Thanks.

I liked the fit and finish of Keystone better than AMD.  The AMD felt thin to me.  :alan2cents:

None of them fit perfect, but it's way cheaper than re-chroming bumpers these days.

I bought an AMD for the front and the bumper guards don't fit. Would probably be less an issue at the back but I'd get feedback from someone first.

I was under the impression Keystone is just a chrome plating company and the bumpers they sell are AMD cores that Keystone buys and chrome plates in house. The chrome is better quality but the rear Challenger bumpers still have fitment issues. :notsure:

Jon at Roseville told me that the 1970 Challenger AMD rear bumper usually will fit better than Keystones. Downside of AMD's is that they are not plated in the US like Keystones. Maybe @MoparDave (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/mopardave_10) can help us out on this?

Keystone cores to come from overseas so they could very likely be stamped at the same place. The Keystone bumpers I've used do show signs of repair sometimes be fore plating. It's a 50/50 on Keystones...and I've had some pretty good luck. :dunno:

  I'd buy another one if I could get a straight one....

Actually the fit problem with the Keystone rear bumper is because the bumper top is straight. The top of the bumper should be slightly concave in order to follow the profile of the taillight bezel.

Both are available. as mentioned many of times each bumper as with any reproduction part are NOT like NOS and may or may not have issues. where and whos blanks are used are really irrelevant to what is available. fitment is a speculative comment.

So, I guess I'm back to my original question. Can anyone post pics of their 1970 Challenger with an AMD rear bumper?

Here you go. Unfortunately I wish I had one of my FJ5 car because it was totally fubared. Both AMD.

Thanks Runcharger that bumper looks to fit perfectly! What was wrong with the other one?

The other one was tight to the back up light. I tried to put more curve in it by pulling the center down and jacking up the ends but I couldn't budge it. It was sort of acceptable but not perfect like this one was. Purchased about the same time too, just a different run I guess.

Good luck with repo bumper not rusting in a couple years down the road. I just paid 450.00 to have one replated  and he guarantee his work for life .

I got front and rear Keystone bumpers from Dave about 5 or 6 years ago...fit well, not a spec of rust yet.

Sounds like your second one fitted like a Keystone bumper. Thanks for the help!
