Title: Engine coolant thickening
Post by: dodj on August 03, 2019, 05:56:26 PM
Hi All
My son's Dodge Avenger had the rad replaced under warranty 2 or 3 years ago because the coolant was congealed..thick.
Looking at his coolant now there are some chunks of something floating around in it. Not sure if the same thing is happening again but made me wonder...What makes coolant thicken up?
:dunno:
The coolant fill tank has dropped a bit but is still above the 'ADD' line.

Whooops, wrong area. Maybe a mod can move it? Thanks

Some coolants don't mix well, has he or anyone added or topped off? Maybe at a quick lube place?

An update. He has added 4 litres of water in the last week and it is at the add line again. There is no puddle under the car. I cannot see any signs of leaking.
I'm starting to wonder if it is a cylinder head gasket?
