Title: Rear End Confirmation ....
Post by: anlauto on August 26, 2019, 10:24:43 AM
Does this rear end make my jeans look fat ?  :haha:

I have a guy looking for 10" rear drum brake backing plates for an E Body....He has an 8 3/4 rear end.

Then I have a guy scrapping a 7 1/4 rear end.....from a drum brake equipped E Body...

Are the backing plates the same on the smaller rear end ?

I assume YES, but am I correct ?

You assume correctly Alan, The backing plates will interchange from 7.25" axles to 8.75" axles, make sure the drum dia. matches the backing plate dia. IE: 10" backing plate = 10" drum, also the bolt pattern is important. But all in all should work. I have a complete 8.75 complete rear end in my garage that has 10" backing plates and drums on it. It's out of a '73 Challenger and has a 741 drop out with 271 gear set one legger. Hope this helps.   Thanks,   Al

Yes, 7 1/4 brakes will work on an 8 3/4.  Years ago I put an 8 3/4 into an 82 Cordoba.  I used the original 7 1/4 brakes on the new rear end.
