Title: interior dome light
Post by: Gizmo327 on September 19, 2019, 05:50:49 PM
recently picked up a 73 Cuda. At some point a previous owner took out the door switches so the light does not come on where the doors are opened.

The light will come on with the dash switch.

I removed the left and right kick panels and am wondering if these are the wires for the switches or something else.

is it a switch that provides ground to the circuit for it tow work?

In the trunk how does the trunk light work?

The switch is the ground for the doors.

The trunk light bulb socket has a mercury switch inside, so the bulb will turn on when the deck lid is raised.

Yes, the door switches complete a ground circuit to turn in the dome light.

Your last picture shows the wires for the doors switch.

The pink and yellow wires in your first picture may have been part of the dome light connection, but it looks like it's been hacked a bit.

Photo of my dome light connector (70 Challenger)  - this was pulled out near the rear side window.

In your first picture the orange wire is for the automatic shifter light. The single yellow wire  is for the dome light I believe...I never knew they went to a single wire in 73  but if you touch that to ground the light should come on.

In your second picture the two wires both go to the door jamb light switch. New switches are available cheap at Rockauto  :alan2cents:

@anlauto (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/anlauto_19), in my second pic the one wire grounds out and turns on the dome light, what would the second wire be for?

Is it for your emergency brake light switch?

Both the wires in your second picture plug into a two prong door jamb light switch.
