Title: Starter Removal
Post by: edison1970 on October 06, 2019, 11:45:04 AM
Has anyone removed a mini starter from a 440 with Hooker Super Comp headers without removing the header?  I'm bummed.  Finally working out my carb tuning issues and the starter crapped out on me. I think I know the answer but maybe someone knows a trick.
Thanks

I couldn't install or remove my mini starter with Hooker Comp 1 7/8" headers and a power steering box although I think I remember replacing a factory starter with the same Hooker headers years ago in my other non power steering Challenger.

Of course I found this out after installing the 440 engine/trans. and headers then went to install the mini starter :steamingmad:

I had to remove the drivers engine mount bolt and jack the engine up.
Loosen the header nuts (I used studs) slide the headers off the studs and install the starter spinning the starter around to get it in there.
The starter is completely buried under my headers.

The starter is definitely bad ? Checked solenoid and all connections ?  Just would hate to go through all that and not be the starter.

The starter motor is good.  The bendix seems to be bad. Doesn't engage with the fly wheel.

On my 440 Challenger I removed the Torsion bar and was able to maneuver the mini starter out. But I have tti headers so I don't know what the
difference is between Hooker and tti.
