Title: Rallye Hood Emblem Color
Post by: headejm on November 06, 2019, 11:41:22 AM
I have 3 hood emblems and they are all different shades of red/orange. The middle broken one and the bottom reddish one were on my car since at least 1980. The top reddish one is a new reproduction. The two reddish ones look more similar in the photo than they do in person.

Question: What should the actual color be of these hood emblems?  :dunno:

I'm sure there was variations throughout the years on manufacturing, and how each paint reacted to climate exposure, age, etc... I don't think you can nail down an exact colour they were brand new 50 years ago, because even NOS ones in wrappers from 1970 can change with age :alan2cents:

This will be interesting to follow as at some point, almost every original badge on my 70 RT will need restoration. I prefer to use anything original over repops so I can foresee some tedious details ahead.

If they had more than one supplier then there almost certainly will be variations.
Here are some used and NOS--The yellow 340's someone painted..

Not exactly the info you are asking for, but, if you choose to paint them to match, I found military 'Insignia Red' to be what my eye thinks is right.
Ferrari red is also good.
