Title: Steering column wires
Post by: FC7 cuda on April 29, 2020, 02:26:47 PM
I noticed when my car is running the connector on the steering column gets hot where the red wire connects .Is this normal?

I would think NOT!!! I would check that out, I bet that is melting inside.  :o  Corrosion in the plug, if it is not to bad, clean it up and use dielectric grease.  :alan2cents:

Your better off cutting that wire out of that connector and just splice them together.

Make sure the contacts are clean & tight , heat is from resistance / poor contact

:iagree:
They are bullet connectors a male pin with a female barrel. If the connection gets dirty or loose, the connector heats up. The heat makes the female half expand away from the male half. Which makes a poorer connection and more heat. With prolonged heat the female 'barrel' loses it's spring properties and will have to be replaced. The connector may also melt.  If your connector is still ok, remove the female end from the connector, clean the inside of the barrel and then gently squeeze the barrel together to create a tighter grip on the male half of the connector. Clean the male half. Re-assemble with dielectric grease.  :alan2cents:
