Title: 340 build book
Post by: Cbridgewater on May 14, 2020, 07:48:20 AM
Anyone have any suggestions on a book/manual to for step by step engine building? My 340 has the bottom end all rebuilt, I need to change the cam, install heads, rockers and all top end equipment.

@Chryco Psycho (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/chryco-psycho_4)  is the guy I turn to when I have engine questions.

Also, you should be able to find most the top end steps on YouTube too.

I was going to recommend this book, but apparently it's not so easy to find any more. Old school so won't cover strokers and etc. but very informative with step-by-step instructions.

Finally getting started doing mine right now; heads are done; stock with better springs and hardened seats.  Block and crank are in the shop being cleaned and checked out.

:wrenching:

Wow, I have several books that I have had for a long time. Plus two generic ones I recently got that also look good. But since I havn't built one from the books, not sure if they are any good. However, I concur that there are several great youtube videos that cover rebuilds in detail. I was going to do the rebuild myself, but the machinist only changed a small amount to put it all together after the machining that I thought what the heck, for that cheap I'd rather have him do it.

So, are you looking for the generic info, or for books that contain tips and tricks for mopars in particular? Meaning, I would think any book should cover the basics. But if your look for some specific details, then maybe some books are better than others.

The first two are newer ones that looked very good step wise. I found lots of good info in them. The last two are books I have had forever

You should also have a service manual for all the basic mechanical work.
