Title: Best cheap enamel paint for beater?
Post by: torredcuda on October 10, 2020, 05:45:48 AM
I almost exclusively use PPG but need to paint a four door Satellite on the cheap, going to stay with the factory brown color but doesn`t need to be the "correct" code just something close. What brand is decent enough, don`t care if I can get locally or order online. I know PPG and Dupont have cheaper grades just looking for options.

Nason or Valspar may be  couple of options.

The PPG shop grade paint is called "Omni".

Both are good for what you are after, Omni or Nassons are equal. It's a matter of what parts store is closer or easier to deal with. :alan2cents:

Ya, probably just go with Omni as I`ve been going to a local parts store that carries PPG and I know the paint guy there pretty well, always takes care of me and knows what he`s doing.

If your looking for cheap...Then Kirker paint system...  Full line of automotive paints starting at about $40-$70 for a gallon of Acrylic Enamel Single stage paint.   Available at many places including Autobodytoolmart.com.   No it isnt PPG but then it isnt $500 a gallon either.  Their line of paints includes Expoxy Primers, 2k Primers, and even Candy colors.   ALso, no you cant get custom colors, to match a mfg paint, but, they have over 30 colors to choose from.

There ya go! Sounds like what the man's looking for. And, as mentioned, the price of paint has gone insane! I remember when my old man was painting completes for $65 and Earl Schieb was doing them for $29.95!!  :looney:

Another choice for cheap...might be the Dupli-color lacquer...  they start at around $20 a quart.   Its lacquer which is easier for a non professional to paint with.   Its a brand name...   not a lot of colors however..

My Dad didn't want me spending much money painting his beater truck.  While attending a car show at Carlisle, I found a vendor selling Single Stage Urethane Paint for $99 a gallon.  I purchased a couple of gallons so I can cut and buff.  Turned out Ok.
