Looking for a pair of rear drum backing plates for 11" brakes (not 10" brakes). Unrestored is fine, all I need is backing plates and e-brake strut/lever. Thanks!
What size 11 x 2 11 x 2 1/2 or 11 x 3
Thanks for reply - my preference is 11 X 3, since i already have a set of 3" drums and matching shoes.
The 3 inch rears were not standard on E-body, but are from a C-body.
Here's the part numbers for the 3 inch rears. Might help your search.
'70 2880648-9 for R and L
'71 3461986-7 for R and L
2-1/2 inch backing plates were more common and easier to come across.
Thanks guys, really appreciate the tips! I already have a set of 3" drums and shoes that came in a recent parts deal, so would be nice to use them if possible. I'm guessing either depth will fit on the car and I'm not concerned about staying factory-correct on this restomod project.
I'm trying to learn something here. Doesn't 2 1/2 or 3" refer to the depth of the drum/width of the shoe? Why would the backing plate be different?

I was thinking this too  but I guess if the axle and housing remain constant, the different off-set for the wider brakes has to come from somewhere :dunno: I never thought there was a difference before reading this thread....learn something new everyday :worship:
Yes, I'm getting educated too. Evidently there are three different backing plates with 2.5 being the most common.
The backing plate offsets the different drum widths. So your drum to drum distance remains consistent regardless of brake width. If not, the factory would need to have more wheel options because the back spacing would have to provide the correction.
I've been looking into the different brake setups as I piece together an 8-3/4 setup for my Barracuda. Learning as I go too.
I might have them just have to dig them out
Does anyone have a set of 11 x 3 rear drum backing plates available? Would save me buying new drums and shoes - thanks!

If you want 3" rear backing plates you might want to go on a C-body website and see if anyone has them. I think for the most part E-bodies had 11 X 2-1/2 in the rear.
Thanks
I have the 11 x 3 backing plates and e brake parts. I sent you a message
Wonderful - thanks!
