Title: Restoring Alternator - Orange paint pictures
Post by: TGGodfrey on November 30, 2020, 06:33:21 AM
Anyone have any pictures of the orange paint patch that was often found on the Alternators?

Thanks

Terry

I suspect the markings on an alternator are similar in a sense to what you see on car's undersides like the rear axle.
They weren't exactly the same on every car, but instead varied depending on who was working on that line at a particular shift and even varied with the same worker depending on time of day etc.
If your original part is gone, or has been refinished, the markings are gone and you will never know exactly what it was originally.  You can duplicate what another restorer has done, or what you see on an unrestored car, but that doesn't mean that is how it was on your car.
I got this alternator probably close to 20 years ago from Bill Rolik, and it is an NOS supposedly assembly line part.  You can see its orange markings are somewhat different than the one Dixie shows.  Another interesting thing I note on it is that is has a thin protective coating of some sort on it.

@JH27N0B (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/jh27n0b_308) I am already aware of inconsistencies with any marks or hand painting on assembly lines.  I am also very aware of the fact that any part that did not come on your car the day it rolled off the assy line is not the proper original part.  Thank you for the pictures.  Ill keep my questions to a minimum.
