Title: Engine Dolly Needed Temporarily
Post by: floorit426 on December 09, 2020, 07:46:45 AM
This, I know, is a long shot. I have my engine out, for repaint and general cleanup. I would like to re install it, with the k member and trans  attached, lowering the car over the assembly. Does anyone, in the SF/Norcal region, have a dolly that they would be willing to rent out to me, for a few weeks?

Thanks

I made one out of 2x4s and 2x6s and two HF moving dollies for my small block. It is all disassembled now. It should not take more than a few hours to make one. I still have the dollies.

I have something similar that I use,  4x4's & 4x6's & the frame is welded steel that was a dolly in a turkey processing plant.... Your welcome to borrow it but personally I'd buy a good furniture dolly before driving clear over to Modesto....

Thanks, for the offer, I'll see if I can come up with something, here. If not, I'd enjoy a short road trip to Modesto...

Hi @floorit426 (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/floorit426_1567) ,

Yes, I have everything you need, and I'm in Almaden Valley.  What's your timeframe?  The only issue I've got is that I'm using it right now, but I should be putting my engine in within the next few weeks.  So it'll be free after that.  If that timeframe works for you then you can borrow it, no prob, feel free to PM me.

Along with the K-Frame dolly I've got the lift that bolts to your bumper brackets, for lifting the nose of your car with a cherry picker.  You're welcome to that as well, but to use it you need to take your frontend off (grille, bumpers, valance, etc).

Thanks for the tag

Wade,

That is a very generous offer, and I would like to take you up on it. I still have to do some engine work and paint my engine compartment, so the time frame should work out well. I will PM you, to work out the details.

Yes, thanks RzeroB, for the tag!

I got this dolly, frontend lifter bar, and casters from US Car Tool.  Not the cheapest, but high quality.  For the casters they are 2 individual brackets that mount to the left and right K member bolts.  That's fine for rolling around in a shop, but for transporting to a body shop (which I did) I was concerned so I added a lower crossbar that boxed the lower part of the brackets to each other.  Otherwise it is all nice equipment.
