Title: tach testing
Post by: GoMangoBoys on February 19, 2021, 10:59:46 AM
I want to test my tach before it goes into the car.  I would hate to have to pull it out later.  Can someone tell me how to wire it up outside of the car.  I can connect it to a different engine if I know what each connection is.  I know I will need 12V, ground and the negative on the coil.  Not sure which terminals to connect these to.
Thanks

12v to the long stud
Tach wire to short stud
Housing to ground

At this stage, you may want to consider the RT Eng tach board. Especially If you want to add a CD ignition. With an MSD or Pertronix digital box you need that board for that tach to work. When you replace the board, you can tell which of the 2 posts are for the 12v and the coil via the instructions from RT Eng. His board also allows you to calibrate it.
