Title: AAR/TA - Power Steering Pitman Arm Bare or Painted?
Post by: Floyd on May 06, 2021, 02:14:37 PM
I see signs of black paint on my original pitman arm (Fast Ratio -T/A).   I see signs of black paint as well as an inspection daub on the pitman arm on my 71 Challenger (also a Fast Ratio car).  Is that correct?

Thanks

FWIW the ICCA reference books say natural finish as a blanket statement for Pitman arms.

Looks like your box is black also...My guess is someone spray bombed it all, sometime in the past...

I'm pretty sure the pitman arm on the fast ratio box of my 71 Cuda convertible was bare.  The green daub I believe was a check on the torque of the nut after assembled to shaft.  The orange is something from the assembly of the box as I don't see any orange on the nut.

Here's some others slightly off topic that I find interesting.  The box and valve were painted black as an assembly.  All of these paint blotches were under the black paint.  I think they were done during assembly of the box at the vendor.

Great pictures and very cool.  Makes sense about the inspection marks.  Thanks!
