While I was installing my brake booster today, I got to looking at and thinking - what installs on these two studs on the cowl at the top of the brake pedal bracket?
Referring to the studs sticking through those large oval holes at the top of the brake pedal mount bracket. I looked at the dash frame - it does not seem to have anything there...
Is this for two large washered flange nuts to pull the pedal bracket into the cowl?
Some early picks I saw on line seem to be missing these oval holes...
Around this part of the car I was pretty good at leaving hardware in place once removed - like the screw in the top left - but nothing on these studs and nothing like a large flange nut in my jar of dash screws...
Everything is still loose in this pick as I had to move the bracket around a bit to get the booster bolts to all align through properly.
I parted out a car a while ago and was surprised to see that bracket.
Most E bodies I've owned have been built in the fall of 69, this particular car was built in April. The studs were there but not fastened to anything. (FYI the brake/clutch bracket also is different as the later has a large access hole facing forward).
The car was a standard transmission car.
So, can't answer provide an answer, but can provide that detail.

I could not remember or think of anything either - kind of strange - unless maybe used for assembly in the factory?

Not so fast Alan. That's where you attach your wallet upon beginning a restoration on one of these cars! As for the nuts for those studs, they're the ones rolling around in our collective heads as we do it! :bigthumb:
