Title: OK to walk on my enclosed trailer roof?
Post by: GrandpaKevin on September 17, 2021, 10:28:11 AM
Sorry for the dumb question.

I have an older late 80's  Haulmark enclosed trailer.

I want to reseal around the center roof vent.

The roof is a membrane type material and is still in good shape.

I'm wondering if I can walk on the roof or should I put plywood down first?

I weight about 225 lbs and don't want to damage the roof.

Thanks for any info or advice.

I think your should be fine but if it was me I would lay some 2 X 10's across from edge to edge to spread the weight that way there is no doubt.  Good luck.

I would lay plywood, cheap insurance, hate to damage the roof & think "I should have"

I would definitely add something to help distribute your weight.  Also, I would belly crawl and not walk on it even with plywood on top.

What does the 'framing' look like inside the trailer?   Probably less than 1"x1"

If you can manage, I'd consider wedging some 2x4s in vertically between trailer roof and floor on the inside to help support your weight while you're on top.

Lay a ladder across it and lay on it if you don't want to buy plywood.
