Came across this picture of the car used in the cartoon series and it brought back some memories of when I was a small boy in the 60's. This was one of my favorite shows and I guess could be one of my influences into cars . .
One episode that really sticks with me is where someone dug up a monster engine from a cemetery . . The GRX it was called. Fastest motor ever! Here is something I found online . . .
" The GRX was technically an engine, but it has become more identified with the gold-colored car that housed the engine in the series episode "The Fastest Car on Earth." The engine was designed by Ben Cranem, and it was responsible for crashes and deaths of four test drivers and its inventor due to the impossible speeds it could attain. Cranem died and the GRX engine was buried with him, but Oriana Flub and her men exhumed the engine and placed it into the car with a sleek, golden, and markless body."
Think I was 4 or 5 when that was on . .
I remember the cartoon very well. Loved it! Too bad they put out that stupid live action movie of it that was TERRIBLE!

The movie was before it's time. Go back and watch it now on a 4K TV it looks crazy with the colors and such.
Don't think I ever saw the movie . . Hmmm
I remember watching Speed Racer when I came home from grade school. The white Mach-5, and those buttons in the middle of the steering wheel that did different things.
Spoiler alert, we eventually found out Racer X was his estranged big brother.
Very cool and you are dating us now.
I somehow remember my little sister had a crush on speedracer.
Didn't have access to Speed Racer when I was a kid. What I did get was Motormouse and Autocat, Wacky Racers, and Speed Buggy.
Yes, I'm of that generation too. It was one of my favorite episodes.
We had a double decker highway here that had the same effect as the cartoon when he went in the speed trance.
Now I have one of the only mass produced cars with individual throttle bodies from the factory. Coincidence?
