Just got off the phone with Ron at Legendary....if you order new seat covers today, Feb, 22, they will be ready the second week in December 2022 :o I have no idea how they can deal like that....not to mention, you have to pay up front !
I called to see where the covers I ordered last July are :headbang:
Have just placed an order with Legendary for a set of seat covers and headliner for a 70 Gran Coupe, and it will take 252 days before it will ship. Order was placed february 13 2022. Of course, it was already paid for. Disgusted.
Ordered a set of seat covers with plaid interior for my 71 Challenger on august 15, and it was shipped on february 18. SIx months as anticipated.
It took me almost 6 months to get the Legendary seat covers I ordered early last year and which arrived in August. I would have thought they would be caught up by now. A few years ago, I contacted SMS Fabrics out of Oregon about some headliner material for my 74 Charger which wasn't available through any other vendor. They had the material and said they could make the headliner. It would cost more but be a quicker delivery time. You might give them a call or use a local upholstery shop if you get the material. They also advertise door panels. Here's SMS website address.

They're using tomorrows money to pay today's costs. Be wary.
Use a CC for these delayed transactions. At least there's some protection if the vendor skips town.
I don't see this with Legendary, but who knows these days.
:iagree: I don't charge my customer's until the parts arrive...so I have to carry the expense for like months which is not always easy to do...
I asked if they thought they would "catch up" anytime soon...Ron said only if the orders stop coming in, which there's no sign of.. :dunno:
I'm not opposed to a reasonable deposit to secure an order, but expecting people to shoulder what could be a $1000-2000 or higher bill (a full set of seats, headliner, etc) for 10 months or more is a bit much.
This is one reason I haven't ordered what I need. That is just too long to be carrying the full amount of the bill with no product to show for it.

So my question is how did they get into this position? Lack of materials? Lack of help? Does the condition that caused this still exist? It seems absurd to say that unless your business falls off you are going to be perpetually 12 months out. If business is that good, grow! If it's materials, there has to be a way to get more materials. I'm sorry, but I will come up with an alternative if I have to wait a year short my money waiting for a product. A custom upholstery shop can do your seats. Will it be the correct pattern, grain and look? No, but I'll be driving my car for a year as opposed to waiting for upholstery and still having to get in line at the upholstery shop. I don't see how a business will survive like that. I question whether this is the old supply and demand trick in action. :dunno: :alan2cents:
I placed my order on November 30 for the seat covers and door panels. I had to pay them $2,528.30 in advance. Then, they said that they will not start production unless I pay for shipping also (shipping for July 2022......). So I paid them another $ 960.00 for shipping.
I asked if I could get the door panels faster and the answer was "They will come out of production around the same time."
I just hope not to wait for so long and not receive anything, after paying $3,500 :)

:o Holy cow! I hope it turns out good for you.
I just placed my order. I'm in line at number 8,000 on back order. Should ship in December!!! At least they only made me pay 50% to get in line.

As a business owner myself (medical not industrial) I am at a loss to figure out why I can't find employees. The patient demand is very high but I can't find staff to care for them, thus months wait.
This is a universally seen across all businesses in the US and Canada right now. It sucks to wait for our parts and also to pay in advance. Perhaps Legendary doesn't want to expand or like the aforementioned crisis, they can't.
Now, I believe the high demand can also make you a little greedy and business drunk. Taking full payment may fall into this category. Deposits are usually customary, not every penny including shipping up front. That's just not cool. Maybe the logistics make the deposit thing too difficult, I don't know.
I feel for you fellas and gals. I've got two completed classics and I'd be so frustrated if I had to temporarily shelve projects and lose driving opportunity.
We are having the seat covers custom made and installed to match original and actually they are much better than Legendary and not a year long wait either. The shop that does these for us will only do the seats, not just sell you covers. The work is perfection and is WAY better than Legendary. The price for a set of e body seats is also 4-5 times what a set of covers alone cost but you get what you pay for.
The shop I am referring to is Tim's Auto Upholstery in Duluth, Ga
Backorders suck, I get it. I'm waiting on cylinder heads I ordered last fall. :pullinghair: Hopefully they show up this spring but no guaranties. I'd encourage people to be careful about taking their frustration out on the vendors, many of who have been reputable sources for our parts for years. This isn't their fault. If you want to point fingers just remember this whole chain of events was set in place the 1st Tues of Nov 2020.
It's such a long wait for seat covers that I just bought a set of good quality used ones for my convertible. They are for a hard top so I wont be using the rear covers...if anyone is looking for a rear cover, black for a 70 Cuda, I can hook you up!
I am interested, my 70 has the wrong pattern in it now. Just not sure if mine came with leather originally as it has an overhead console ... still hoping for that elusive broadcast sheet to come in!

I'll send you some good pictures of the rear covers once I have them in hand. Should be next week.

Is Legendary still considered the best source for production upholstery for our cars? Possibly barring a custom shop as someone mentioned above?
I went ahead and ordered Year One Vinyl top for my challenger. They were backordered for months as well, but now in stock. I got it and that is a sight better than waiting until 2023 for a top from Legendary.
As an update, I just got off the phone with Legendary and they are still a minimum of 8 months out for seat covers. I am still in total disbelief of this insane post-covid world we now live in. I need seat covers and would prefer Legendary, but I cannot accept an 8 month lead time. Here's to things getting back to a reasonable level of normal, not the "new" normal that we're all supposed to just accept. :drinkingbud:
Yup, no sign of the seat covers I ordered in March....I'm not surprised though...they told me Feb 2023 :drunk:
I purchased my first set of seat covers from PG Classic for a 71 Demon I'm restoring....They came in four days...and are being installed right now...I'll post a review when I get them back, a nice comparison to a set of Demon seats from Legendary, installed by the same guy. YES....I have two 71 Demons on the go.... :whiteflag:
I am going to need seat covers and headliner for my `70 road runner, guess I better order them now. I see PG lists them but they are all black when the accents are supposed to be silver?

I see they recently poster their annual sale...
Probably the best time to buy, but they took a cue from Classic Industries or Year One with the notatation "up to...25%".

I wonder what they are quoting as their current "lead time" ? Are they still 6000 orders behind :drunk:
If you're booked ten months out why do you need to offer sale prices?

So they can be booked 15 months out... :haha: :haha:
I just put together a cart with front and rear upholstery, front seat foam for my '71. $542 + $366 + $329
Cart shows 15% off coupon for manufactured items (-185.55)
Then $109 for shipping, $21 for oversize, and $116.66 tax (you can tell its ill-a-f*cking-noy from the number of the beast at the end of the tax)
I haven't found what items the 'up to 25% off' gets you 25% on.
As usual Year One excludes everything I'm looking for from discounts or free shipping, so they are even higher.
Major bummer...I was going to order new red covers for my seats and they told me 33 weeks out....ugh. I guess that won't be happening this winter.
I think Legendary has done worked themselves out of a job in the minds of many of us...
At this point I am thinking of giving up on buying anything from them and just giving the
local upholstery guy the work. I did this a few years ago and had good results. What
is left of Legendary's reputation isn't really inspiring me to join in on this fiasco they have
created. Might not be cheaper but I would receive the end result in this lifetime...
I don't mind the wait...it's the fact they take my money up front....they must be sitting on a million dollars worth of orders people are waiting for... :looney: not a great business model :bricks:

But people keep ordering and in doing so are rewarding what Legendary is doing.
There's not a lot of other options, and they know that

What they are doing should be criminal, but if it isn't it is still downright unethical. Forcing people to pay the
entire value of the order and then wait 10+ months for it? That is terrible business practice. The wait is one
thing... most folks can stomach the wait if they do it sensibly like take a deposit and then get the rest when the
order ships, but many don't want to tie up cash like that. What if something happens to them? Do all those
customers get their money back? I'd be surprised if they did...
Placed an order with them for some Cuda seat covers on february 13, with a expected waiting time of 252 days. So it should be ready by now. Wrong.
Nothigs from them yet, and no reply on expected delivery time. Money up front of course.
So any recommendations for a high quality but not stupid expensive upholstery shop in the greater chicagoland area? Bonus points for one that doesn't require entry into shitcago proper.
By not stupid expensive I don't mean cheap, just a place that does not consider everything it does as being another Hope diamond...
Depending on what type of car you're working on, and what colour seats you have. PG Classics also carries a line of seat covers...I just bought a set of white Demon ones, still waiting to see what my upholstery guy thinks....
Just think of how much money could be generated off of the interest or smart investment of the money that they are taking in on each order. This number could be actually more than the profit off of the given set of seat covers or door panels at the end of the day.

I don't think they force you to pay when you order...at least they didn't when I placed my order around 8 months ago. They only invoiced me for stuff when it shipped.

Maybe it's an International thing ?
I should be seeing him soon, I don't know if he's installed them yet, but I do know this is not his first set, he bought a set for his own car. :dunno:
If ever given an option, I would always select Legendary over PG.
PG seems to use cheaper materials.

That is the understanding that PG uses crappy stuff, but they have been continually improving their quality over the years, whether it's starting to equal LAI is the question, but still falls back on = you get what you pay for :alan2cents:
As for the "option"... it's always there....Legendary = 1 year wait times, expensive price, PG = on the shelf ready to ship, half the cost :dunno:
WOO HOO  I was quoted the end of January 2023, but my seat covers I ordered March 24th 2022 just showed up... ::)
I can't believe I'm saying this but that doesn't sound too bad....
