Anyone know if they make seat foams for the rear bench? Need it for 72 Challenger
I've never seen it and all the original ones I've taken apart look as though they glued in cut pieces of foam to get the right fit.
I only have seat frames, nothing else. Anyone have specs and dimensions to work from?
When I did mine, I used a thin tough material to cover the springs and glued 1/4" thick jute strips to all the sharper edges. Then I glued a sheet of 1" foam down and added additional 1" foam strips (6" wide) to the top of the upper and the front of the lower. When you stretch on the new covers, you'll see areas that may need a little more foam so remove cover and glue in large strips as needed to make the cover tight everywhere. When we did the final stretch and crimped the hog rings, it felt as if it was too tight but the final result was excellent and comfortable to sit on. Also, don't use heat or steam, just take your time massaging the cover into place to remove wrinkles. The back actually turned out to be much less work than the buckets.
Legendary does sell a rear seat foam kit. It is generic to pretty much every car, you just cut to fit for your application.

You can also buy those same materials at shops near you for one third the cost.

as mentioned the back seats use generic materials, not custom molded foam like front seats.
Bottom gets burlap, felt edging, high density foam, muslin strips glued onto foam to hold down certain areas.
Back gets burlap, felt edging, 6-7 layers of cotton, wrapped with muslin to hold it down.
100-150 hog rings should do it as I recall.

I didn't realize they used foam on the seat section and 3 layers of cotton on the back section.
I did my rear seats and got them from Legendary. I can't quite remember if they were molded or not, but they turned out fine. Any issues were probably due to me. They look just fine.
Another way to save a ton of money on rear seat foam, is to go to a salvage yard and purchase a rear seat from a car that is similar in size to the Challengers....like a mustang or camaro or newer challenger. Most salvage yards especially the u-pull it types sell rear seats for between $25 to $50. Take the foam out of them and use it.
