Title: fuel pump pushrod
Post by: JS29 on June 02, 2022, 02:52:05 PM
The push rod for my fuel pump on my 383 dose not want to come out, so I can check it for ware.  What is the trick to get it out I pulled the threaded plug out, put a magnet on it and it won't come out.  :dunno:

According to these guys needle nose vice-grips seem to do the trick,,

Seems many replacement pump rods are crap... Someone recommended Hughes

Back in the late 90's I had a 440 Superbird that used to eat those push rods...The cam would damage the end of them, they were a bitch to get out...everybody blamed it on poor quality push rods and I went though two or three before I had to swap out the cam...Once the cam swap, I never had an issue again....
I used the needle nose method, but usually damaged to rod doing so. :dunno:

If you exhaust all the polite methods and if you have access to a stick welder, you can weld the stick on to the end of the rod and pull, as you will, on it. Best saved as a last ditch defence though.
