Title: Early hemi number
Post by: cudamadd on December 10, 2022, 11:18:06 PM
Hi A friend as just waited 6 mts to have his factory 66 hemi charger imported . My Question is on his behalf we are looking for the engine number . We have letters and numbers telling as it a hemi But we cannot see a engine number like on an ebody for example. Now we have been told that the factory did not stamp an engine number on a 66 hemi ?? Down here we have Vic Roads the same thing as you but I thing you call it DMV if we cannot find a number we might not be able to get the car resisterd for the road . Our second option is that they can give as a brand new number if be . But we know very little about this 66 year hemi Any help would be greatly appreciated thank  John :australia:

VIN stamping on Hemi engines started in 68.

Here is some more info from a similar question.

Skid is spot on. For pre-'68 cars there is no way to positively associate a particular engine to a specific car. If I'm reading your post correctly, are you saying that the Australian "DMV" requires a matching VIN on the engine?? There are no exceptions to this rule for "antique" cars??

I can't imagine them requiring a vin stamping if it never existed for that year.  I can't imagine them requiring a matching stamping for a vehicle that has a replacement motor either.

Are you sure this is necessary?

Easy enough to prove there was never a vin stamping on a 66.

Is it normal for the Australian government to expect a matching VIN on the engine of a vehicle?  I understand trying to avoid theft/fraud/chop shops, etc. but what do you do when your brand new Holden windows a block and the factory puts a new engine in it under warranty?
