Title: exhaust tip placement
Post by: GoMangoBoys on February 15, 2023, 08:21:45 PM
I just finished installing the new TTI exhaust system.  It is all just fit together.  Noting is bolted tightly yet.  I need to install the exhaust tips that I have.  It appears that I will have to cut the ends back some on the TTI tailpipes to weld on our tips  I may be able to get a collar to slide over them to clamp them on, but either way, I will need to shorten the tailpipes some.  Can someone give me an idea as to how far the tips should stick out under the valence panel?

Cut too short not easy to add back. So may be try a shorter cut first and see if you like it or not. Not sure what factory is like but I like it stick out a little. I had mine set with the rectangular portion of the tips half way out from the rear valance looking from the top. I did not like the look having the tips flush with the valance.

They should extend from the valence by 1 inch.

@RUNCHARGER (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/runcharger_192) yours turned out pretty nice. I'll keep that as reference.

Well, here is how they turned out.  I may need to bend the brackets on the tailpipes to raise the tips a little higher.  Someone prior to me owning them had really done a hack job welding them onto a 2.5" pipe over a 2.25" pipe as can be seen in the original photos.  I cut that crap off, ground down the existing welds and welded on 2.5" couplers that I got at Advance Auto.  These slip right on to the TTI 2.5" pipes.  I had to shorten the TTI pipes by about 2 inches and now have about 1" sticking out.

It's very simple to adjust the height on your TTI tail pipes...simply get a floor jack and jack the exhaust up and that bends the hanger :alan2cents:

This is what I ended up with running stock-type exhaust.

1" sticking out
1" gap between top of exhaust tip and valance
