I put a new rad in the Charger and it moved the fan shroud closer to the engine. There's a one inch gap between the rad and the shroud and I might close that off with a finely crafted (not by me :haha: ) metal strip. I think a lot of air could get drawn in there reducing the amount coming through the rad. But maybe the bigger problem is the position of the fan within the shroud. It's basically fully immersed. I know it's only supposed to be 1/3 to 1/2 inside. How much will this effect performance? Is it really even an issue?
I think I'd call Champion and describe what you're looking at and your concerns Murray. :bigthumb:
For sure I will, I tried on Friday and got a recording. But that won't answer the question about my fan being deep in the shroud and how that effects performance.
Should be fine as long as the back side of the fan is close to the smallest part of the shroud .
Thanks Neil.
. I just got a Champion for my Challenger and have the exact same shroud fitment issues. I would be interested in their input on how it effects cooling efficiency.
I'm considering removing the captive crimped nuts in the angle edges and sliding the shroud behind them. The offsets in the backside of the shroud looks like it will seal like factory to the tanks and fins. Will be awhile but I'll post my results.

LOL! That's
exactly what I suggested to Murray! It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. :bigthumb:
Must have missed that suggestion.
blown motor, did you ever talk to Champion about the shroud issue?
Not Champion themselves. I talked to Ledfoot who I bought it from. The rad is made to accommodate electric fans. They sell an aluminum shroud that will fit if you don't want to use electric fans. At least that's my understanding of it.
You likely did, unless you work for the NSA because it was in a phone conversation between Murray and I.
