Title: 1970 Challenger Fuel tank vent question
Post by: Dodgey1 on April 18, 2023, 01:23:00 AM
Apologies in advance for a potentially dumb question - my 1970 Challenger (build date Sept '69) does not have a hole for vent the tube on the fuel tank. It just has the level sensor/pickup hole on the drivers side and the fuel filler hole on the passenger side.
On these early models, how did the fuel tank vent work or did they not have one?

There's a nipple on the  fuel filler neck on Challengers which is the vent.

The vent line passes through the rubber grommet on the floor of the trunk pan.   I believe the stock arrangement is an open ended line into the rear wheel well.  This one arrangement will guarantee you have gas fumes in your garage, especially if it's warm.  Later models routed the vent to the engine and then a carbon canister to the engine for a somewhat controlled return to the engine.

My apologies for the picture rotation.
