Title: Where to order soft top?
Post by: Zshowket on May 06, 2023, 06:51:59 AM
Hello Gurus,
It's beyond time to replace the top on my 70 Challenger. The top on the car is close to 40 years old.  Want to stay with a white top, where would you suggest is a good place to order a quality top, with pads and all the goodies?

I assume Legendary is the only source for convertible tops?
Were you going to install it yourself? I've seen some articles before on installing convertible tops.  I guess it's possible for a do it yourselfer to do, but looks to be an intimidating job to tackle.
If you're not going to try it yourself, your best bet would be to research interior shops near you.  They may want to make the new convertible top themselves using the correct style materials rather than use a kit.
It's pricey these days.  A friend of mine had a new top put on his Olds Pace car convertible a couple years ago, he told me it cost around $3000.  The guy he found actually came out and did the work at his house.

When I sold resto parts we dealt with these guys. My boss was very happy with their product and he'd tried them all. I can't comment on their Mopar stuff though as I'm not familiar with rag tops.

Kee Auto is the best source for convertible tops.

I was about to order mine from electron top earlier this month but they closed shop in January. I ended up getting it from EZ On auto tops. I haven't installed it yet but I'll comment on the quality once I do. If it's junk, the upholster guy probably won't even attempt to install it.

I bought my last two from Hydro-E-Lectric only to find out they drop ship their tops from Kee Auto  :dunno:

Yep. Kee Auto Top is basically it. Robbin's Auto Tops used to make good tops, they were also more expensive, but looks like they stopped making the tops for all but a few of the big Chrysler's from the 60s and 70s.
Kee makes very good tops though.

Any pads you get are going to be generic. In other words, just long straight rectangles. If you want to match the factory pads, hopefully your old ones are still intact and you can use them as a pattern. Replacement pads are always much wider.
But, do you need a pretty good sewing machine to modify them.
