Title: T/A block
Post by: rftroy on July 23, 2017, 11:08:45 AM
So, my number is coming up soon for a Passon five speed, and I'm looking to sell a few things to pay for it.

I have a standard bore T/A block with one cracked bore, which will need a sleeve.
Actually, block is ~0.002" over with not much taper, about a thou.  Could be someone did a ring job at one time.

Plan is to clean it up and mag it.  I will leave it to buyer to sleeve the bore; I'd want to do it myself if I was buying.

So, any ideas what it's worth?

Any VIN numbers?  If you find the car it came from, that's your buyer.... Unfortunately it looks like more than a crack, a sleeve should fix it just fine but it looks scarier than a typical crack....

Oh, yes, the cylinder is cracked through, but that's not that atypical.  Don't expect problems from this, but will mag block anyway.

And I contacted Barry Washington a while ago and he had no record of the VIN.
I will contact him again to see if there is any new information.

Right now I just want to get a feel for what it's worth.
After seeing that complete rust bucket AAR go for 36.6k last night, I may be undervaluing it.

post the VIN  - Barry isn't the only registry (He & the AAR registry don't even share all VIN info & they're both in PA)  :looney:

I fully agree.

0B297190

But the question is, What's it worth?  Even if the car still exists and the owner is found, I still need an idea as to the block's worth.

BS23J 0B297190 is an automatic AAR in FJ5 "limelight" w/black top & interior - but that's all I know

I'll take a guess,
$10k to match to the original car
$5k for someone to use as period correct

Wow I'm impressed! Do you have a record on all AAR's and TA's?

What does the block come with? Just block and caps?

If the block checks out as good (magged) and the only repair is the sleeve, then I think someone might go to $4 or $5k if they need a T/A block.  Finding the original car would push that number up a lot.  But that's just a guess.  I'm really not sure what T/A Blocks are going for these days.

If I needed one I would be making you an offer.  Good luck with the sale.
