Title: Early build 71 seat belts
Post by: Skdmark on August 20, 2023, 04:52:31 PM
I have an early build 71 Barracuda (812 SPD) with the typical 1970 cross over parts (console, seat backs, trunk floor etc.)
When I got the car in 2020 all of the seat belts were missing.

So with it having the 70 style seat backs, which seat belt setup would it have originally had the 70 or 71?
The reason I ask is the 70 style seat backs have the slot on the side for the 70 version of the seat belt to pass through. The 71 style belt retractors will not permit the belt to pass through the slot.

The floor pan will dictate what style seat belt retractor it came with. The anchor bolt hole is in a different location for the 71+ style retractor then it is for the 1970 style. :alan2cents:

So when did they run out of 70 style seats and start using the chrome push button 71 seats?
Mine have the one piece retractors , but 70 style seats.

I've never heard of 1970 style seat belt retractors found in a 1971 car, plenty of the seats, but not the seat belts. :alan2cents:

The 71 belts were used starting the first day of production for 1971 cars, there was no using of 1970 belts into the 1971 production year.

Sometime in October/November, as far as I can figure. I have an original 71 Barracuda with SPD of B12 that still has the 1970 seat backs on it.

71 Cuda with an October 7th (A07) SPD here. 1970 seat backs, floor console, passenger side inner fender. 1971 seat belts.
