Title: Fire wall picture
Post by: cudamadd on September 04, 2023, 05:26:25 AM
Would any one have an original picture of the way the factory used the sealer along the fire wall from side to side .I have seen smooth and some are very rough .?  :australia:

My car. 1970 Challenger built at Hamtramck SPD508. As far as seam sealers throughout my car...none are smooth. Doesn't appear that seam sealer neatness was a focus for the assembly line. I'm not sure about LA built E-bodies.

Quite rough is what I have seen on original cars. Varied drips squeezed out. Sorry I don't have a clear picture of what I've seen But globes of excess sealer of about 3/8" round is common. Like HeadJM's but maybe with 2 or 3 large droplets the length of the seam as well. It may appear to be poor standards but in actuality I think the excess would indicate more material and a better seal rather than a tidy application with minimum sealer that probably wouldn't do the job.

Here is a page from the site and it has more than just the cowl. Lots of good info.
