Title: Caliper sealing washers
Post by: 1970 cuda Joe on May 18, 2024, 11:30:29 AM
What are you guys using for caliper sealing washers where the brake hose meets the caliper? I have one that's being the north end of a south bound camel. Thank you, Joe

There's a copper washer used where the brake hose attaches to the caliper.  I'm guessing not too hard to find but I know Bill Rolik has them.

That's what I have but it isn't sealing. Hoses are new. Sealing ring is new, Caliper is rebuilt....Joe

I had similar problem.  Not all copper washers are equal.
Most of the aftermarket washers are thinner than factory.
I ended up buying some washers from local dealer, and that worked.
Mopar Action had an article on the issue.

I'm thinking the aftermarket is too hard & not allowing it to crush....Thank you, Joe

I bought this relatively inexpensive Dorman kit. Has not leaked in four or so years.

6030084 is a discontinued part. I did find some at a dealer in Utah. They arived today so tomorrow I should be able to get the brakes finished. It's been a long haul. I just thought some would like to know about the sealing rings....Joe

I bought the Dorman Help kit of copper washers about 10 years ago. Still no leaks. Does your caliper maybe have a score in it?

I hope not. I will see tomorrow. The washers I got today are real thick, like .060 or thicker(didn't measure them)....Joe

Out of curiosity I looked for these, are people really getting $20 each for these now?  Insane, I think I paid less than $2 each when I did my brakes, that was 10yrs ago, but geeze!

I think I get the Dormans or something else before paying those prices, nothing special about the Mopar washers, you just need to make sure whatever you use is thick enough.

HF has pack of 80 for $7

I got 4 for 22 bucks shipped from Utah. I had this same problem with my 1969 Camaro. Once I got the oe washers, no more problem. They have to crush. If the copper is hard, it can't do it. I had other options but went with the oe....Joe
