Title: 7 1/4" axle shafts in a 8 3/4" axle
Post by: soundcontrol on August 10, 2024, 11:58:03 AM
Does anyone know if the axle shafts from a 7 1/4 rear axle fits in a 8 3/4 axle? It's an e-body 7 1/4, so bolt pattern is 4,5". And the 8 3/4 housing is for e-body also.

Where are you at? Do you need 8 3/4 axles? I have just the axles that I'll never use? Shipping would be a killer though....

69-71 c body are almost the same lenght.
I think if you used both, an 1/8" narrower. Within the range of the adjuster takibg up slack, and room for the drum to clear the backing plate. If you only need one, really not a problem.
Then, if you could find a c body axle pair , it probably comes with the housing, and you can bolt the whole thing in.
