Title: Carlisle/Harrisburg Hotels
Post by: headejm on January 19, 2025, 09:59:59 AM
Starting to plan for Carlisle this year. I've never attended the show but usually start the year thinking I'm going to. No different for this year. My question:

Ignoring price, what are 2 or 3 of the nicer, convenient hotels in the area?

Thanks!

It's not just price...it's also availability. If you want to be close.
The Holiday Inn Express is newer and convenient, but I think pre-booked...that is one example.
Mechanicsburg has a number of places but that's about 1/2 hour away.

I was going to change to a closer hotel this year but when I first tried I was too early then by the time I remembered to try again they were all booked. I ended up booking the same place I have been staying for a bunch of years now - the Holiday Inn Express in New Cumberland.

I'm hoping to attend my first Carlisle show this year also as long as I can get the logistics arranged for my AAR Cuda.  Are all of the cars in the showfield judged or is it like the Mopar Nats. where just the cars registered for judging get looked at ?

My buddy and I share a two bedroom suite at the Towne Place Suites in Mechanicsburg.

Different kind of judging at Carlisle.  All cars in the showfield are judged, but by the other participants in the showfield.  They are not judged on a points system, but you pick the car you like best in each category - so it's more of a popular vote.  There are also celebrity picks.

And on the original topic, if you want to stay in Carlisle, you are most likely not going to find much at this point.  You can call around and hope that someone cancels.  Most of us book our rooms for the next year when we check out.

Hi Check Expedia, there's lots of motels still available in the area.  Be prepared for some sticker shock, though.
I've stayed at the Super 8 North the last two years and have reservations for this year as well.  It's actually been pretty good.
The Travel Lodge is in the same complex.
Good hunting

Thanks for the info. - I was able to get a room at the Hampton Inn Mechanicsburg, 25 minutes away from the fairgrounds

I usually get a vrbo or Airbnb .
I didn't get the one I've stayed in for a few years so now I'm 5 minutes out of town in the woods somewhere.  Should be a quiet location.  Prices are not as high as the hotels, usually.
