Title: Correct finish
Post by: 61K T/A on August 22, 2017, 02:24:38 PM
My BB coil bracket has some surface rust on it where it mounts. You don't really see it but I know it's there so I want to fix it. I've been told that the original finish is plain steel, low sheen plating, and bright. I'm confused. Which is it?

If I recall correctly, it was just a simple zinc plating.  Over time it lost any shine or luster.  Most of the originals I see are partially rusted now too so it's hard to tell for sure what the exact sheen was.

Clear/silver zinc. If you put it in acid, it will fiz until the zinc is gone.
