Title: Change Engine Mounts
Post by: Cudajason on October 07, 2017, 09:26:55 PM
Hey Guys,

I need to change out the engine  mounts in my small block cuda.

My plan is to jack up the engine with a block of wood under the oil pan, unbolt each engine mount one at a time, replace and do the other.

Does that sound line a reasonable plan.  Am I safe to leave the engine jacked up over night with one of the mounts out, just in case I don't get it all done in one night.

I would love to use an engine hoist, but I just don't have the room to.

Jason

no problem , the oil pan can support the weight or you can use a block along the pan rail also

Cant say specifically for a small block Cuda but in general it is not a great idea to leave things supported by a hydraulic jack over night. Even the best of hydraulic jacks will slowly but surely leak down under load. It may be ok when you leave it for the night but by the morning the fan might be sitting on the shroud or worse. Safer bet would be to chock it with a bit of timbre if you have to leave it overnight.

What brand of mounts did you get?  The over the counter ones from the local auto parts store have proven junk from my experience.  The Mag mounts from mancini or mity mounts are a better choice.

You won't have to leave it on the jack. You'll be changing the mounts in about 15 minutes a side.

I bought replacement rubber mounts through Roseville.

Might be a good idea to run a bolt through the drivers side securing both halves of the mount like the mag and mity mount design.  I tore an almost new all rubber mount and the exhaust manifold dinged the paint on pass side inner fender pretty good and my 340 isn't that stout but I drive my car a lot and get on it when I do.
