Title: Source for missing relays under dash
Post by: 76orangewagon on October 12, 2017, 10:06:24 AM
I've started tearing apart the dash in my 1971 Cuda for restoration and noticed that I have a couple empty relay holders one mounted to the side of the Brake pedal support bracket and the other on the side of the ashtray mounting bracket. From the research I have done it seems one is for the 4 way flasher (brake bracket) and the other is "possibly" for turn signals (ashtray bracket) but I can't seem to find a source for OEM rectangular style to use in the mounting brackets since they are both missing. Is there a good source for the OEM rectangular style around ?  Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Those round flashers plug right into the brakes....  And while they may look like a relay they are definitely not relays..

They were round from the factory :alan2cents:

I wasn't sure if they were buzzers or not and just assumed it was a replacement relay..my mistake, that being said an I correct in assuming that the empty brackets are definitely for some type of relays and if so where can I source them from ???

Again, the round T/S washers go into those clips/brackets...

Ok I think I got it now ...the round flasher would mount sideways into the rectangular bracket. I was under the assumption that I needed something that would fit in the bracket like the one in the picture.

While I sure don't know for a fact but I think some were rectangle. This is one that was on my 71 when I took it apart. Original? It fits the bracket perfect.

Shane...that's what I assumed I was looking for, but I'm no expert in wiring and you know what happens when you assume.

Oh yea. When I was building mine I was looking for the same ones also. The that came in my car is exactly like the one in your picture.

So this is factory correct ? It fits fine just reminds me of a round peg in a square hole

Just how they were.... The square flashers are interchangeable but when I first worked on these cars starting around 74-75 90% had round flashers, I believe the boxy ones were replacement parts....

That's how they go. I agree that it does seem odd.

Did you purchase your car brand new ?

Don't know to many 5 year olds buying new 71 Cuda's. So that would be a BIG no!
That's why there is this (?) behind the word (Original). I was wondering if some cars could have possibly came with the rectangle flashers. Early, later or superseded kind of thing. Let me ask you this. Can you say positively for a fact none ever drove off the lot with them?
I will say this. I have restored several makes and models of cars over the years I had never seen the rectangle flashers before these last couple Mopars I have done.

No I can not say anything for a "fact". My experience has been opposite, having restored 32 E Bodies, I've never come across a rectangle shaped flasher unit like in your picture. :alan2cents:

Just ordered a NOS signal Stat 175 on eBay for $13.00...in  researching the topic and searching the Inter-webs I see that the "A" and "B" body crowds have addressed the same question with about the same outcome...... some say "rectangle" and some say "round".

Your going to need another one. When you found that one did you search for Stat 175?
