Hello everyone, my car has just left for the AMD installation center. This is the first time I am sending a car out for metal work . I am a little nervous about the process because I can't jump in my car to see it being worked on (it's a 15 hour drive). Craig from AMD has made me feel totally comfortable with the process. I have attached some pic's of the before. I will keep everyone posted with regards to the restoration.
Hey, that's great news !
Do they require it to remain rolling on it's own wheels ? It couldn't just go on a cart like my cars do ?
I will be interested to see this one come together!
Hi Alan, they wanted it rolling with the door and trunk latches attached, because during the restoration they want to align the doors and the trunk and make sure everything closes properly . Once it reaches AMD they pull the suspension off and sandblast the car.
Makes sense I guess :worship:
For those that don't know, this AAR did a few stints on EBay and was parked by Gate 1 at Carlisle in 2016  Thankfully it was bought and is now being saved

Will AMD be sending you pics as they work on it. ?
 Should be a pretty cool experience watching this come back from the dead! 8)
B5 4 spd , very cool , can't wait to see this one fixed up
Great to see another one survive! Did they give you any guess on turn around time?

can't wait to see the progress. I can do without seeing the bill though :looney:
The turn around time is 60 days, I told them if I could have it ready for first or second week of January (2018).
They agreed and said it wouldn't be a problem. They will be sending me progress pictures as I request them.
They have a great reputation for hitting their time frame and quote....be interesting now that we have a current example to follow along with... :fingerscrossed:

B5 4spd AAR .... absolute dream car. looking forward to see what AMD does too
We've heard a lot of great things about Craig and his work. Please post a lot of photos. :takepicture:
Awesome! Best of luck buddy! I will be following your build! :)
I've heard some positive things on AMD it'll be great to actually watch the progress and end result
How much is something like this going to cost?

AMD has a estimate page on there website, it is very detailed and they have a video to help you walk threw it.

A lot :alan2cents: I know around here, that amount of work would easily be in the $25K range CDN..... :bigmoney:
What's this project running you in this case Car-nutt?
The quote I received was 15K, that's with sandblasting and primer.
This amount of work is vaguely familiar to me.
Let me see: quarters, inner wheel houses, door skins, rockers, fenders, floor pan, trunk pan, can't tell if the tail pan is savage but hopefully the Dutchman is, roof skin, and finally hopefully no frame work is needed?
That sounds reasonable to me, especially with blasting and prime.
Does the price include block sanding? Not sure how many hours will be needed to block sand, but I'm sure that can get expensive fast.

That price includes ZERO body work.....The AMD facility only does metal work....
The idea is that with all new panels it won't need much body work. :fingerscrossed:
I will definitely be watching this one come together. Does the $15k include the metal it needs or is that on top? I see you are in Ontario; $15k Canadian or U.S? Reason I ask is I'm thinking of sending my '69 Charger to them at some point here.
All in it was $18k (US) that's including metal and labour.
Exciting times for sure! Craig and the crew will do you right. Just make sure to track all your emails and take notes for phone calls and you will be fine. Can't wait to see your big reveal.
Soooooo, what happened to this build? Last entry was well over a month ago!
:needphotos:
Car-nutt emailed me some pictures, they are well into the car.....said it should be finished by the end of the year...
Looking to see some pictures as well. Time to do some bragging on progress of the car.
Hello everyone, I will post some pic's first thing in the morning.
Thanks :thankyou: , can't hardly wait. :handshake:

Looks like it is off to a great start. Keep the pictures coming. Progress like this gives incentives to all of us. :veryexcited:
Is it on the frame jig yet ? I like those pictures :bravo:
I just spoke with Bill at the installation center, half the car is on the jig right now. They will be sending more pic's over the weekend, I will post once received.

Do you have another project? Sounds like you are a car nut.
I can only imagine sending something special like an AAR off. Im happy to hear you like what they did. Congratulations
I'm just finishing my 71 Cuda, I've got my little helper giving me a hand in-between naps.
AAR, 1971 shaker, little cutie helper, well played!!!
Just waiting for the motor and transmission.
Sorry about the pic's being upside down
That's got to be the "flattest" nicest fitting AAR hood I've ever seen :bigthumb:
Looks great so far!
Awesome!! Wish I never got rid of mine great color combo

How cool is that? This car was done over 35 years ago, I still had it 25 years ago after my daughter was born. That's at the annual Chrysler Twinsburg Stamping plant show.
What a great picture, thank you sharing.
