Title: Harbor Freight heads up
Post by: edison1970 on January 04, 2018, 05:03:06 PM
I just wanted to give you guys a heads up if you purchased Diablo air lines for your compressor.  I inspected mine this past week and found that the hose has become weak on the ends.  I purchased them last summer and was very disappointed and surprised that the rubber deteriorated so quickly.  A good idea to check yours if you bought one before it blows off and possibly hurts you or that nice paint job on your car.

The last hose I bought from HF was made by Goodyear  in the USA. That was like just last year. Your post should get us all to take a look at our air hoses to insure safety.  :thankyou:

I always use the 20 & 25% off coupons and the free coupons. I have a closet full of 25' tape measures, flashlights, multi meters...etc. :haha:

I agree, Harbor Freight has it's place
I have found that quality varies.
I buy the cheapo wire brushes for stripping, I use them up them throw them out. It is a must to wear eye protection, especially when the brush needles fly all over the place.
Recently bought some impact sockets SAE for $20 for the set, I always worry about impact sockets shattering, hopefully not; we will see!

Has anyone bought an air compressor from them?
I am looking at their 60 gal, 5 hp-two stage. Cheap at 799.00 compared to competitors.

I agree the less moving parts the tool has the better with Harbor Freight.  Although some are good.  Read the fine print on the coupons they are honoring less and less with the coupon these days.

You might want to take a good look at that hose, I had a Goodyear hose I bought at HF 15 years ago that held up for 10+ years, when it failed I went to HF & bought another Goodyear hose, it said made in USA on the packaging but it sure wasn't made like the previous hose....

I now have a couple of these....    https://www.amazon.com/Milton-1633-Foot-EPDM-Rubber/dp/B001O2ZZJO/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1515426539&sr=8-7&keywords=air+hose+3%2F8+inch+x+50+ft+milton

Just their small 100psi 2 gallon.  It works great for pneumatic brad nailers/staplers.  Yesterday it didn't shut off at 100psi and kept going.  The pressure valve opened and dropped the pressure back down to 60.  I brought the compressor inside and let it warm up.  Brought it back outside and started it up again.  The shut off worked fine...must have been the cold temps.

I've seen some nice looking compressors at Theisen's Home Farm Auto for decent money.  I don't know if they are any better then a Harbor Freight compressor or not.  I don't think a hobbyist needs a top of the line compressor but you don't want complete junk either. It's hard asking these questions online because most people will say, "Buy a used name brand."  Even then, they are usually a lot more then other new ones you see. Does a hobbyist even need a used top of the line compressor that doesn't run every day? :dunno:

I love the Harbor Freight "Pittsburgh" swivel head ratchets.  They are way better then my other Craftsman ratchets.

I got my PUMA 60 gal compressor from HF and have no complaints about what I got for the price.  Sometimes I wish I paid the extra $$ for a two stage, but since I don't paint I figured I didn't need it.  My only complaint in use is it can't keep up when using the blasting cabinet.  I bought it in 2008 and it's been going just fine.  Regular maintenance and all is good.

Has any one tried some of their newer tool lines like Earthquake?

:iagree:
So far they have been very good ratchets, my favorites. It was getting old fixing my craftsman ratchets.
