Title: voltage regulator
Post by: cuda hunter on April 04, 2018, 07:58:43 PM
67 barracuda 400 727 .
Voltage shows 18.  Switched to a different one I had in the garage.  Same voltage 18.

New battery in the rear is puking acid.

Is the altenator bad or should I try a voltage regulator off of my known runner?

No stores are open out here and I work all day so it's hard to just go pick one up.  And they would have to be shipped in.

First make sure your grounds are solid and all connections are clean and tight.  Voltage drops across poor connections can fool the vr into overcharging.

More likely to be a bad diode in the Alt if 2 regs make no difference

That's what I was thinking at this point.

When the motor blew, the shift point was about 7500 rpm.  Would that be enough to fry the alt?

NO , I ran my Duster to 7200  for years with no issue but the alt could still be bad
