Title: 340 connecting rods
Post by: Rich G. on May 30, 2018, 01:52:06 PM
I have a 73 340 block and crank but no rods. Does anyone have the part number I need to order? It's just going to be a stock rebuild. Don't know if all 340s are the same.

  Now is a good time to upgrade. Aftermarket H or I beam rods, your choice. lots of manufacturers.
   Eliminate a weak link.

@Rich G. (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/rich-g_641)  I have a set of rods you can have. Will have to check tomorrow to see if I can get a number off of them. They came out of my 73 340 block.

@Rich G. (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/rich-g_641) 3418645 is what I have. They are connected to 60 over pistons. The engine they came out of lost oil pressure when the oil pump jammed snapping the shaft that drives it. When I rebuilt it I put in all new internals.

be sure to have any rods you buy checked for correct size. Some may need to be resized to ensure long life.

  Definitely replace stock bolts. Which requires resizing of big end. Then check for straightness.
Yada-yada... with money spent on stock rod refurbish, you're pretty close to a new set of lighter, stronger rods.    :looney:

Murray, if you want to have those rods inspected by X ray or mag, I could probably get Jimmy to do them. I also know a machinist who could resize them.  :cheers:

@jimynick (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/jimynick_55) That would be up to @Rich G. (https://forum.e-bodies.org/mlist/rich-g_641)
Anyone have any idea what they're worth?
