Title: Got scratched, what do you think it’ll cost?
Post by: dave73 on July 30, 2018, 05:41:12 PM
So an outdoor cat made its way into my garage, walked all over my car and scratched it up pretty good. My paint job isn't great, it's a diy garage job but it's the principal of the situation. I have discussed with my insurance, Geico, and they would classify it as a no fault comprehensive claim and my deductible is $50. They claim it will have 0 impact on my future rates as it's not my fault.

Pictures below, 1st is drivers side rear quarter with scratch above body line, 2nd and 3rd on top of passenger fender (look close there are a ton of scratches).  what do you think it'll cost to have this fixed? My concerns are:
-the paint job isn't the best so matching may be difficult
-it is a satin black and if shot at a different psi the sheen will be way off
-I have a t/a side stripe so that will have to come off the fender if they reshoot the whole thing

I honestly would take the money and sock it away until I have enough for a real paint job. I wouldn't waste my time on having someone fix my crappy paint. But I do want to make sure I get an accurate reimbursement if I went the claim route.

You pretty much would have to sand the scratches out and paint the whole thing. I surprised the insurance company would even cover cat damage! I guess you take what they give you and run. Good luck!

Yea they are saying they will cover since it's not my animal, not sure who's it is just assuming based on the aw prints it's a cat.

I would also find the animal and make sure it doesn't happen again..... :vipermanhiding:

Have the company send out their appraiser and see what his sheet looks like. If it can't be explained at the cost shown, then take the car to a reputable body shop and get them to appraise it. Good luck.

Thanks all, the appraiser is coming out this week to look it over.

There are scratches down to the primer level on the decklid, hood, passenger fender and driver quarter. The side stripe will need to come off on the fender, the hood is a matte finish while the rest is a satin. Going to be interesting when they stop by.

Of course this happens the one week when I don't put the cover back on it. It's not beautiful paint job but it's the principal of the situation.
