Not an E Body car but my 68' Charger R/T. Has a good leak of either transmission fluid or power steering or combination of. I am going to start with the pan gasket first. I know it can get messy but how hard is it to check the bands and or adjust them while I change gaskets and filter? I am not a transmission guy at all.
It's pretty easy. I adjust them following the service manual. You'll get 10 different methods from 10 different people it seems.
If your there you should probably just hit most of the common leaks all at once.... And do a full fluid drain & refill at the same time....
Shift shaft seal, dipstick, band anchor pin & use the Mopar pan gasket part # 02464324AC
Check shift-shaft seal. Don't screw around guessing at leaks...it's not worth your time. IDENTIFY the leak first.....
Just changing the tranny pan gasket is bad advice. What if it's not it? Other leaks require you to remove the pan again to solve. That means $20+ lost in tranny fluid. Find the leak first. It's easy to assume it's the first thing (and easiest thing) to do, but chances are....probably not it!
Shift shaft seals are common leaks....just FYI.
You can easily rule out a power steering leak just by asking the question..did you have to refill it recently? :)
