I've recently been more and more interested in the A66 optioned 70 Challengers.  What is a realistic value on a nice driver car with a 4 speed?  Would they be a similar value to say a 383 4 speed RT version?  And does anyone know how many 4 speed A66s were made?

Thanks.

A66 Challengers sell in the same price range as a base 383 RT Challenger. I track prices of A66 Challengers in maintaining data for the A66 Registry. Prices average low $40's to $60k + for clean examples. 4 speeds, and convertibles are more desirable and often get a premium. I recently posted auction prices for the several years which bears this out.

Which is why I usually roll my eyes when someone puts my car down. How many R/T's were made in 70? Even 4 speed R/T's. I still have em beat hands down. Never understood the small block bashers. I'll just take you to some twistys and wave goodbye.

A66 Challengers are an excellent choice. Someday the rarity is going to kick in.  :)

Flat hoods, automatics, demand less money.

But I like them because often, they have the cooler V9* rear bumblebee stripe than the V6* one (bleh).

Always liked the bumble stripe better then the side stripes and thought it was cool to have the bees in the quarter window glass
A66  Challengers came standard with the scooped RT hood. There are some who claim their A66  came    with a flat hood. There was a car magazine that tested a 70 340 with a flat hood in 1969; it was a 318  car converted to a 340 as a test mule in August 1969, and published in December.  I have a pic in the A66 Registry of an A66 with a flat hood owner claimed.  No other documentation.

A66 Challengers were really RT's with a small block with the 340 really underrated power wise  :driving:

My first Challenger back in high school was an A66 car.  Plum crazy, black top and interior, 4 speed, rear defog, with V5X body side mouldings (no stripes).  Unfortunately, the car no longer exists.  I still have the title, VIN & fender tags for it so I know it will never get rebodied.

My love of the 340 started with that car.  Hence why I'm putting a 340 in my convertible soon.
Contrary to the opinions of some, I am not dumber than I look.

In all the decades I've been a Mopar fan, I've felt that the 340 was the best overall engine available in E bodies. If I had been old enough in '70 or '71 to buy a brand new Challenger or cuda with no "crystal ball" to foresee the future value of V and R codes, I would have checked the box for a 340 on the order sheet for my dream car.
The R and V codes have the sex appeal to draw the deep pocket collectors and investors, but the 340 makes for a much more enjoyable car to drive. :alan2cents:

I like the 340 cars but have never been satisfied with a 340 E-body. To me the best bang for the buck was the unpopular 440, 4 barrel option on the 70 E-bodies. Pretty much the same performance as the six pack cars but with New Yorker hassle free maintenance. The 340 in an A-body is an almost unbeatable combo though, just doesn't have the razzle dazzle eye appeal of an E-body is all.
