4-Speed Manual with Console - Pistol Grip Shifter Boot Trim Ring or Not?

I am gathering parts for a conversion from 727 Auto to TKX 5-Speed Manual.
Did the 4-Speed Manual E-Bodies with console get the stainless trim ring or was this done differently, e.g. no trim ring, blacked out trim ring, etc.?
I have seen the trim ring under the console on the majority of cars at Mecum or shows. What is correct?

Trim ring was also used for 4-speed cars with a console.
