Hey Guys, Wasn't able to find anything on the forum about this, but the pictures I've found make it look like a natural finish. Is that correct?

The pedal or the metal parts behind it?  Most of the time, those OEM pedal metal parts have surface rust, so I'm gonna go with they were bare metal to begin with.  The one you have pictured looks painted. It looks... kinda nice, but I wouldn't pay extra for that, and it surely ain't (is a word) NOS.

It's definitely not NOS. It's my pedal assembly. I just cleaned the pedal real good and lightly blasted the metal parts. The pictures make it look brighter than it really is. I was just thinking about the clutch and brake pedals, how they are painted black on the lower portion so they become less visible. Under dash components are usually darker so they don't draw your attention, so was curious if this should be black as well. As you stated though, they're usually rusty and would indicate a natural finish.

Does anyone reproduce the little plastic plug that retains the accelerator cable from falling out of the keyhole?

I took a look at mine, car is a beater that I got in the 90's.
It's definitely not bare metal, seems to have a very light flat black on it.
Curiously the top appears to be dipped with a glossy black, like yours.
No way to know what happened before I got the car.

I know I've seen a thread on here about those. I'll have to do a little digging. I'm pretty sure they are available, or they used to be. Hope they still are.

First pic is following an evapo-rust treatment.  Second pic is untouched original.  I'm thinking it's a grey phosphate plating?

RUNCHARGER

I agree: Probably grey phosphate. The originals I have seen were not bare metal. The OP's looks pretty good I think.

avatar_Floyd @Floyd,
Great pic, I'm glad you take the time to collect and share these details.
Question: assuming it's grey phosphate, what is the black at the top? Was it black phosphate first then dipped in the grey phosphate?

Floyd

I think the black at the top is a thin rubberized dip coating, similar to what's used on valve cover looms and other wiring related brackets.

That makes sense especially given lack of straight drip line between the grey and black.

Thank you for the education
