Fader switch wire

At least I think it is called a fader switch; I may be wrong 

Anyway does anyone have one of these where the back wire w/dark green tracer has been clipped like this?  It does not look like it ever went anywhere; no joining wire in the main loom.
Best I can tell with out untying the knot in the wires it is the one soldered to the switch case as pointed to.

Maybe it is just a ground and the switch physically grounds to the dash or does not need a ground?

That clipped black wire is correct.
