Assembling crush can/ adapter and the gap looks big, measures about .300. Does it look OK or can someone measure theirs? Just been awhile since I've taken it apart and want to make sure it's seating all the way.

The gap on mine measures 0.145.

Mine's at 0.20" inches.  Sorry about the dark pic.

OK, what would keep it from going down all the way?

The only thing I've run into was not having the keyed slot lined up correctly between the can and the column.  If you can remove the can, it'll be pretty obvious if you were off.

Production tollerances.  As long as the master spline is lined up and you tighten the nut down all the way, you're good to go.

Ya, I noticed the other one I have was about .045 shorter on the female spline sticking below the can. I deburred and oiled the splines agian and got it down to about .270 so I`m just going with it.

The only problem I can see that it might have at that much gap is the horn power roller being tight on the horn ring on bottom of can...?

rimblow adaptor can?

All ebody steering wheels use the same can and it's not that one.  Looks like an abody part to me, put the correct part on and call it good.

I guess I should have mentioned that it is an E-body can but I modified it by making a new outer shell about 1 1/2" shorter than the stock ribbed one. I did not change the location of the bottom edge though, scroll down on page two to see how I made it -  https://forum.e-bodies.org/your-restoration-project-roseville-moparts/10/fried-fish-rebiulding-and-upgrading-the-barracuda/16486/15

Keep in mind that the Crush Can is an important safety feature. It's called a crush can, because it crushes in an impact with the steering wheel.
On an E body, the steering shaft is in two pieces, just like A and B bodies, that are held in location by two plastic pins, so it collapses in an accident if your body hits the steering wheel.
On A and B  bodies, the column also collapses because near the firewall there are a lot of holes cut out in the housing, and the housing is pre-crumpled.
The E body steering column is solid.  To make up for that, the crush can was used.

Use your best judgment, but keep that in mind when using a non-factory adapter.
The flaming river adapter looks as though it's similar to a factory one with the collapsible crenellations.
Grant makes an adapter for the E body, but it's a solid chunk of aluminum. Which means the only thing left to collapse is your ribs.

Many years ago (decades actually) when I was working the parts counter at the local Chrysler dealer, a 70 Cuda, that hit something real hard, was trucked in. Looking over the car, we were surprised to see just how much that Crush Can crushed.

Wearing the shoulder harness, which I do, should hopefully prevent my from collapsing the steering column with my chest so not too worried about a solid adapter. On the list of upgrades are new belts, I haven`t really looked into options  for them yet and probably just sticking with the 3 point system but they may be wider than factory for a little more safety.

I agree the "crush can" may have been designed as a safety feature back in the day, but unlike new cars....I still think that can will do more damage to you then you can do to it.. :'(

I'd  be more worried about hitting your knuckles on the dash with the shorter adaptor...
