I have a set of 73 bucket seat covers from legendary and am having issues installing. I've watched the videos legendary has and read through threads on here. They don't sell a foam kit for 73 so I bought 1/2" and glued that on, same as legendary recommends. The sides are wrinkled and almost seems like there isn't enough foam, see image. Also, I noticed from pulling on them the rear seam started to rip, that's when I stopped. I'm about to let a pro do this but was quoted $500 and won't be able to spend that for a few months. Am I doing something wrong or should I just stop and wait to pay someone.

I thought someone said they were reproducing foam for the later years now.  I'd look into it.  I know they didn't used to but things might have changed.

Nice work blown motor, I think this was a recent product Dave mentioned.  Ask Dave at Roseville for the ebodies.org discount.

I'd contact Legendary on the rip, that shouldn't happen.

Got the interior buttoned up. I went back and took my time and slowly worked them on. A few wrinkles that I've since steamed out, didn't have a hot day to lay out the covers in the sun so they were fresh out of the box basically. I'm very pleased how they came out for my "driver". The 1/2" foam makes a world of a difference, I can actually see over the hood now!! Thanks all for the help. Definitely better than paying 500+ to have these installed.

An upholstery shop would really charge $500 to install seat covers that are supplied by the customer? That seems very high....

My legendary covers are on the way. I plan to take mine down to the local upholstery shop to have it done. Seats are in generally great condition. No rust repair needed. But I wouldn't be expecting a $500 quote....maybe $200-300 tops.

The cheapest quote I received was 500 for the set. The highest was 1k!!

I could see $500 if the foam needs help or if there's other issues (rust), missing springs, etc.....but on a pair of nice seats that just need new covers, no painting, no springs, no re-foaming (other than a "top" layer foam for snug fitting of the cover), I would balk a little at $500.

That's basically $50 an hour for 10 hours of work. It doesn't take a pro 10 hours to slip on new seat covers (and to do it well) on two bucket seats. I may be mistaken.

My shop charges me $40 to install a seat cover on a full size motor cycle, I supply the cover. That includes installing the base trim ring and the fasteners.

Maybe this shop will slap me with a $500 quote. I'll call right now and report back...since I'm going to be dropping mine off next week. Legendary covers!

FWIW...

I had my front buckets refurbished this spring by upholstery shop near me...

They stripped them down to frame, cleaned, primed and painted frame, new burlap, new foam, new vinyl, clean and paint seat back covers and hinge trim, new screws, and a can of SEM trim black to touch up backs or hinge covers if ever needed.

Total was $1600... they came out fantastic!

Just got off the phone. I was quoted $350-400 to install my covers. That's if there's no significant surprises.

I assume the Legendary covers should have a thin piece of foam stitched on the backside of the cover....is that true? That's what the originals had.

If not, then I can see why Legendary asks to install a thin sheet of foam.
