Steering wheel gap

I just saw this photo of a steering wheel with a gap on another site and I guess this may be a common thing. Anyone ever fix this? If so how did you go about it? Was thinking of filling in the gap, but not sure if that is the best approach.

That's pretty common.  Yes, you have to fill the crack and sand it down.  You basically treat it like the car body.  I can't remember what people use in the crack though.  I know I used to have some 2-part epoxy putty that would work well.  You could smooth it out with water to get the contour really close.  Then finish sand it.

Mine for my 70RT is in fair condition, no cracks, but the grain is worn to 50% and the rim blow element is trash. Planning to send it to one of the three recommended, but am having trouble deciding.
